Josselin Lefèvre, ESIEE Paris graduate, wins best student paper award
Josselin Lefèvre, 2021 ESIEE Paris graduate, received the “Best Student Paper Award” at the DGMM 2022 conference (IAPR Second International Conference on Discrete Geometry and Mathematical Morphology) which took place in Strasbourg 24th-27th October.
The prize was awarded for his thesis about the “out-of-core” algorithm
The following article was awarded the prize:
Lefèvre, J., Cousty, J., Perret, B., Phelippeau, H. (2022). Join, Select, and Insert: Efficient Out-of-core Algorithms for Hierarchical Segmentation Trees. In: Baudrier, É., Naegel, B., Krähenbühl, A., Tajine, M. (eds) Discrete Geometry and Mathematical Morphology. DGMM 2022. Lecture Notes in Computer Science, vol 13493, pp. 274–286. Springer, Cham.
Supervised by ESIEE Paris Professors Benjamin Perret and Jean Cousty, Josselin is currently completing his thesis at the Gaspard-Monge Computing Laboratory (LIGM) in collaboration with Thermo Fisher Scientific.
Thermo Fisher Scientific is a US multinational provider of research and analytical equipment for laboratories, including image acquisition devices and software to process these images.
Advances in sensors have made it possible to acquire images with increasingly precise resolution, enabling us to see finer and finer structures. On the other hand, the images acquired are and can exceed the size of computer memory, causing standard software and algorithms to fail. Josselin’s objective is to propose an out-of-core algorithm (i.e. where the data cannot reside in the main memory) capable of processing these images with standard computers.
